NY WITH THE #WEARNEXT MOVEMENT

The fight against waste and pollution in the apparel industry is not just words for the Big Apple, but also actions that are already visibly creating results throughout New York City.

Through the British “Make Fashion Circular” initiative, the organizations involved have established partnerships with collecting, recycling and resale companies.

According to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation press release (which is actively involved in the process): “New York landfills collect about 90 million kg of clothing per year. In addition, 73% of clothing materials worldwide are either dumped or burned after being discarded, while less than 1% of old clothing is reused to make new clothes. “

From March 4th to June 9th, more than 1,100 stores will be involved in the #WearNext movement, as well as other locations that will act as delivery points for so-called “unwanted” clothing.

The “Make Fashion Circular” initiative was created by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation in May 2018 to mobilize international efforts to create more ethical and “circular” business models within the Fashion industry.

Fashion can only be considered “beautiful” and a common good, if it is really treated and cared for – “from the inside out”.
