SOLO BY ROSE PALHARES

SOLO by Rose Palhares” is the new collection with Egyptian (African) influences, presented last April, on the island of Luanda, Angola.

Based on premises such as – women’s empowerment, identity, social responsibility and sustainability – the Angolan designer celebrates her native land with a collection made for “real” women.

Pleats, silks, linens, ropes, among other materials, gave the motto to a collection literally “with the feet on the ground”.

The Earth that surrounds us. Made of cycles: beginnings, ends, life, death – where Africa, the cradle of humanity, is exalted in pieces ranging from earthy tones (green, yellow, beige) to blues, white and black.

According to the creator, for BAIGA: “The purpose of this first solo show, which represents the beginning of a new cycle of my career, was to show the African side of the pieces. With the tops made in strings, I drew the parallel with the braids (our hair), enhancing the beauty of the African woman. “

“As for the prints, it was all made by us. Drawings, lines, cutouts, overlays. A real handmade work that I’m very proud of’’, she concluded.

Regardless of bodies, size or height, “SOLO by Rose Palhares” is made in honor of real women. Women who have various roles in society and who gain an increasingly active “voice” in women’s leadership and emancipation.

The scenography of the parade was in charge of the well-known Angolan artist, Binelde Hyrcan. A fusion that resulted in a true interactive spectacle, where film, music, collection and environment reinforced the underlying message of Angolan identity and the encounter of the human being with his greater good: the earth, the roots and nature.

“The red earth, the leafless trees, in a more underground and industrial environment, represent destruction and chaos. After chaos comes the new, transformation and beauty. I wanted to offer a sensorial, human and more interactive experience to the audience, “said the artist.

The production of the event was done with a concern for social responsibility, framing the community of Luanda Island in the creation of the scenic environment of the former Sorefame Factory, where the event was held.

Dozens of local youths were involved in this project, without whom it would not have been possible to implement them.
