Predestined by Shiva, who left two drops of the Ganges there, the Mauritius Islands are an earthly paradise, full of beauty and color, in the middle of the Indian Ocean.

A true “African pearl”.

According to the legend, Shiva and his wife Parvati were circling the Earth in a device made of flowers, when they noticed the incomparable beauty of an island surrounded by an emerald sea. Shiva, who was carrying the Ganges River on his head to protect the world from floods, decides to land. During the turbulent descent, a couple of drops of water flow from his head and fall into a volcano crater, forming a natural lake.

With a tremendous tranquility and surrounded by colorful coral reefs and transparent natural pools, the islands that make up Mauritius, in the Indian Ocean, are the ideal place to relax and take advantage of the stunning surroundings.

Formed by the island of Mauritius, Rodrigues, Cargados, Carajos and Agalega, they are close to the Seychelles islands and have a diverse culture, due to the mix of races and nationalities: Africans, Indians, French, English, Chinese, Muslims…

The independence of Mauritius was proclaimed in 1968, with Port Louis as its capital. With a population of more than 140,000 people, it is the perfect place to “eat, pray and love” – a true paradise on Earth.

The archipelago attracts more than 940,000 visitors annually and offers alternatives for all tastes, from environmental protection, dream resorts, to extreme sports.

The gastronomy, on the other hand, is a true sensory ecstasy, with a combination of cuisines as diverse as Creole, French, Indian and Chinese.”

Hinduism is the predominant religion, and multiculturalism is notorious. Numerous temples scattered throughout the streets can be visited and contemplated by anyone walking or passing by. One of the most traditional is the Vishnu Kchetre Mandir, in Port Louis, opened in 1932.

The street snack vendors, the lively street markets, the Chinese drugstores and the buildings of architectural interest are highlights worth paying attention to. The Séga dance – the traditional dance and cultural ex-libris, originally performed by slaves, represents a symbol of freedom and hope for all of Mauritius.
