“FRESH BACKSTAGE PORTRAITS” BY JOÃO BACELAR baiga

“Fresh Backstage Portraits”, at the Designer Outlet Algarve from 6th April to 11th May in Portugal, is the name of the exhibition of fashion photographer João Bettencourt Bacelar, which offers an intimate view of the backstage of the 2 emblematic Portuguese Fashion events.

“In this exhibition, all the models pose for the camera and enjoy the backstage with freedom to express themselves. The photographs are unique because they represent a moment of closeness in which the model interacts directly with the photographer’s lens, “explains João Bettencourt Bacelar to BAIGA.

“FRESH BACKSTAGE PORTRAITS” BY JOÃO BACELAR

The inspiration for the exhibition, in which you can see photographs with creations by national designers, such as Maria Gambina, Susana Bettencourt, David Catalan, Alexandra Moura, Alves Gonçalves, Alecksander Protic, Olga Noronha and Luís Buchinho, is to present to the public an original vision and intimate fashion, different from what is usually shown in the pictures of the runway shows.

“Many designers appreciate the backstage photographs in addition to the passerelle, because they provide a perspective on different details of clothing and creations, as well as how they behave on models. The models’ attitude is also different behind the scenes, providing almost an informal session of editorial photography, where they can show their personality, charisma and attitude, “adds the photographer.

João Bettencourt Bacelar is a photographer, artist, designer and illustrator. Since 2005 he has photographed the backstage of the main fashion events in Portugal. The recent portraits he selected for this exhibition complement his already extensive backstage photographic archive. In 2018 he won the prize for best portrait in Insties Gerador, with a backstage photograph taken at Portugal Fashion. His backstage photographs have been published numerous times in several national and international publications.
